

Sher Brothers is one of Scotland’s leading cash-and-carry operators. The first Sher Brothers cash-and-carry clothing warehouse was set up in 1951 in Glasgow. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength and now operates five wholesale cash-and-carry warehouses, trading under the name Sher Brothers (Cash & Carries) Ltd.
Market research carried out by the company indicated a pressing need for a ‘one stop shop’ for all non-food items – previously customers had to visit a number of different cash-and-carry wholesalers to purchase everything they required.
Sher Brothers owned a 13-acre site on Kilbirnie Street, Glasgow, close to the Kingston Bridge. This central location was ideal for a new extensive cash-and-carry warehouse, providing an area of 130,000 square feet for over 80,000 wholesale non-food items. Trading commenced in September 2006.
Sher Brothers approached M Computer Technologies to supply an EPOS system capable of supporting all aspects of this demanding sales environment. MCT had already supplied systems to other Sher Brothers outlets and had built up an excellent working relationship with the company.
The EPOS system needed to be robust and reliable, able to handle the large number of stock items and process sales fast and efficiently. It also had to manage the complex pricing structure operated by Sher Brothers which was based on volume discounts and other factors.
MCT seamlessly integrated these requirements into the Maeko Wholesale system, providing detailed reporting software to generate dynamic pricing. Special deals based on volume and pre-negotiated client arrangements are calculated automatically at check-out, requiring no input from sales staff. In addition, the system incorporates efficient tracing tools to keep track of data access and provide an action audit trail. This helps with training and reduces errors. Security levels are also increased.
